Honfest 2009

Last weekend, Hampden, a neighborhood in Baltimore exploded with crazy outfits. Our friend Sara showed us some photos of her and hers taking part in the festivities of, what we have come to learn is called, Honfest.
Even though 2 of us editors here at t.a.c.o., are originally from Baltimore, MD, we had never heard of this fantastic festival. Now you might be saying to yourself "what is a honfest, and what is a HON?"
well after doing a little research I learned that Honfest started as a modest pageant that was a tribute to all of those wonderful women who use the word “hon” in conversation. Hon's are women who particularly favor beehive hair-dos, ’60s-style clothing with plenty of leopard print, pedal pushers, perhaps even a lovely poodle skirt. These treasures think nothing of combining spandex with bright blue eye shadow and a bold lip.

would you too like to be a hon? well we have a few tips to get you started:

1) Get yourself a metal porch chair. Perfect for sitting on the front porch or back patio, however also works indoors.

2) turn your tires into planters. Hons are industrious. so get creative!

3) eat steamed crabs. this delicacy is an age old Bawl-mer tradition, and a favorite to any true Hon!

4) tease your hair. The bigger the better. naturally.

here are a few Real Life Hons spotted at Honfest!
